Mortem Labs was founded by a Roaster everyone calls "Coffee Mike". After retiring from the military in 2018 and building two successful retail brands for other companies, Mike was looking to create something where he could let loose and be himself. Mike originally discovered his love for coffee and roasting while on a deployment in 2006 to Guatemala. Having sustained some great personal losses, he originally called the brand "Post Mortem" Coffee or "After Death" but deciding to change it to Mortem Labs because of scientific approach to roasting and also a nod to one of his favorite brands (outside of his own), Onyx Coffee Labs. Working with friend and artist Mike Cranford, Mike wanted a brand that referenced the 80's and 90's and pop culture. He continues to to grow a commercial Roastery as the Director of Operations, Mike continues to innovate new brands, new designs, new blends and new coffees all "After Death".
